Overview of IS6-D-IR-170 Integrating Sphere:

User's Manual

The IS6-D-IR-170 is a 6” integrating spheres (5.3” inside) with a Germanium detector for use with highly divergent (D) beams up to 170°. The IS6-D-IR-170 comes with a IR detector, is calibrated from 700 to 1800nm and can measure up to 30W.

IS6-D-IR-170 integral sphere drawing:

Main parameters:

Aperture Ø8mm
Spectral Range 700-1800nm
Power Range 20μW-30W
Dimensions Ø154 (mm)
Max Pulse Energy 0.7mJ
Max Average Power Density 1 kw/cm²
Max Average Power 30W
Max Beam Divergence >±85 deg
Sensitivity to Beam Divergence ±1.5%

Problem summary:

Advantages of integrating sphere in optical measurement

Can measure diverging beams over 45º

Can measure relatively high power (IS6-VIS up to 30W)

Can measure large size low-power beam

Insensitive to beam alignment or coherence

Due to reflective surfaces, they have high damage thresholds, especially for short pulses

It can be used to measure power, spectrum and time pulse shape simultaneously

With fast response time of photodiode, it can measure high power like a thermal sensor
