Operating principle of photodiode sensor
When a photon source (such as a laser) is aligned with a photodiode detector, a current is generated that is proportional to the light intensity and depends on the wavelength. Since the power of many low-power lasers is about 5 to 30mW, while most photodiode detectors are saturated at about 2mW, PD300 sensors are built with built-in filters, so the basic sensors can measure power up to 30mW without saturation. The PD300 sensor series can measure power up to 300mW or 3W, depending on the model, with the help of an additional removable filter.
