Problem summary:

What is the difference between the "port plug" (white) and the "port cover" (black) in the integral ball accessories provided?

Unused ports should be closed to prevent unwanted light from entering the sphere. Close it with the diffuse white port plug, and add the surface area of the plug to the (diffuse white) effective area of the sphere being "integrated". For a calibrated integrating ball sensor, this change in the ball's behavior will change its calibration and result in incorrect readings. In such applications, black "port covers" should be used.
