The AM 5000 activity meter (plant nutrient tester) determines the salt content of the soil or substrate, taking into account the respective soil properties, such as soil moisture, temperature and soil density.
The salt content is determined by the concentration of dissolved solids (salts).
In aqueous solutions, the dissolved salts are free and mobile and can be measured via conductivity. In the soil or substrate, this mobility of the salts depends on
soil moisture
Soil density
Soil temperature.
These factors determine the level of salts that are “active” and can be absorbed by the plants. Since the plant nutrients, such as nitrate, potassium, etc., are present in the soil and substrate as salt, the availability of the nutrients can be determined by measuring the "active" salts. The plants can only absorb and utilize the active salts, ie the salts that are dissolved under the given conditions.
The measuring principle of activity measurement was developed in the 1970s by Prof. Dr. Walter Tepe, head of the Institute for Soil Science and Plant Nutrition at the Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences, developed it. Since then it has been used to quickly control the nutrient supply of plants.
The AM 5000 represents the final development stage of activity meters. The electronic production is based on modern SMD technology, which is considered more reliable and temperature-resistant than conventional wire technology. The housing is splash-proof and robust. The ease of use is unsurpassed - the measurement is carried out with a single press of a button. Recalibration is not necessary.
The stainless steel probes for direct measurement are available in three different lengths. No special maintenance of the devices or probes is required.
The measurement values are evaluated by comparing them with the optimal values for the respective plants. A comprehensive table with optimal values and an easy-to-understand operating manual are included in the scope of delivery.
Possible areas of application:
Ornamental plant cultivation in all areas
Nursery area, e.g. in containers when using slow-release fertilizer
Landscaping, e.g. for new facilities, sports and golf course construction
Substrate production for quick output control
Compost plants, for safety control when using compost as a soil improver or additive
Municipal areas, e.g. city garden authorities (road salt contamination of avenue trees, etc.)
Service area, e.g. consulting, customer service, etc.
Departmental and university areas for practical teaching activities
