Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) is a colourless gas which is toxic, corrosive, and flammable. This triple threat, combined with high toxicity at low levels make early detection essential. A common threat to those working with crude oil and natural gas, H2S is also produced through the bacterial breakdown of organic matter, making its presence is relatively common in confined spaces. The human nose can smell the characteristic ‘rotten egg smell’ of H2S from around 0.5ppm. This ability is however lost at around 15ppm, upon which the nose becomes desensitised and can no longer be relied upon for detection.
Alphasense H2S Sensors are available in a wide range of formats and both PPM and PPM variants, making them suitable for use in variety of applications, from fixed and portable detection instruments to environmental monitoring systems and networks.
A: 20mm diameter, the industry standard size for portable gas detectors
B: 32mm diameter package, the best choice for fixed site applications
D: miniature, with proven long-term performance. Sensors for the next generation of portable gas detectors
With very high sensitivity and low zero, accurate and stable readings are possible when measuring current concentration ranges from ppb to 1% H2S.
