The PD300-IR is a photodiode laser measurement sensor for the near IR. It has a 5mm aperture with swivel mount and a removable filter. Without filter, its spectral range is from 700 to 1800nm and its power measuring range is from 5nW to 30mW. With filter the spectral range is 700 - 1800nm and the power range is 200µW - 300mW. The sensor comes with a 1.5 meter cable for connecting to a meter or PC interface.

How to know what range or scale the power or electric energy meter is set to?
Each given range represents a gain level of the internal amplifier. As always, the dynamic range of electronic equipment is limited. If the measured signal is too low, in other words, close to the bottom of the range, it may be lost in noise, and the reading will be inaccurate and noisy. If it is too high - saturation problems may occur. In order to give the instrument a useful wide dynamic range, multiple scales or ranges are used. The switch from measuring range to measuring range can be automatic or manual. Automatic range adjustment only starts automatically within the least sensitive range, and then gradually reduces the range, sampling the signal until the range where the signal can be detected correctly is found. When setting the range manually, follow the same method used for automatic range adjustment, start from the highest (least sensitive) possible range, and - if the reading is less than 10% of full scale - switch down to a more sensitive range.
