Sulphur dioxide or Sulfur dioxide (SO2) occurs naturally via volcanic activity and is also produced as a by-product of copper extraction and the burning of fossil fuels contaminated with sulphur compounds. It is sulphur dioxide which is responsible for the smell of burnt matches.
Breathing in sulphur dioxide causes irritation of the nose and throat. Exposure to higher concentrations can cause nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and corrosive damage to the airways and lungs. People with asthma may be more sensitive to the effects.
Alphasense Sulfur Dioxide Sensors (SO2 Sensors) are available in a wide range of formats and both PPM and PPB variants, making them suitable for use in variety of applications, from fixed and portable detection instruments to environmental monitoring systems and networks.
A: 20mm diameter, the industry standard size for portable gas detectors
B: 32mm diameter package, the best choice for fixed site applications
D: miniature, with proven long-term performance. Sensors designed for the next generation of portable gas detectors.
The SO2 range provides OEMs with reliable sensors for use in a variety of applications. Strong signal levels combined with low zero current allows resolution below 1ppm and an operating range for safety applications up to 2,000ppm. The sensors are designed for use in both fixed site and portable instrumentation.
