Smart and rugged is one of the Vaisala MMP8's big benefits. The MMP8 is powered by Vaisala HUMICAP® sensor technology. HUMICAP® was developed for demanding moisture measurements in transformer oils, lubricants, hydraulic fluids, and other liquids and has proven its worth for more than 20 years. Functionality is the MMP8's second big advantage. You can now measure moisture in dissolved oil based on water activity (aw), relative saturation (%RS), and temperature (T). This device can also calculate the ppm concentration of transformer oil. Connectivity flexibility is MMP8's third major advantage. The MMP8, part of the Indigo series, is compatible with products such as the Indigo52 digital processing unit and Visala Insight software, enabling data visualization, simple probe configuration and self-calibration.

Accurate and reliable measurement:
The intelligent MMP8 incorporates the Vaisala HUMICAP® 180L2 sensor, which was developed for demanding moisture measurements in transformer oils and lubricants, as well as other liquids, and is the result of more than 15 years of field experience. The sensor's good chemical tolerance allows accurate and reliable measurements over a wide measurement range, with high sensitivity at the dry end -- often essential in transformer applications.
Easy to install:
The MMP8 can be installed using a ball valve mounting kit or even where the probe needs to be installed or removed without interrupting the operation of the process. The probe installation depth can be adjusted, pressure joint options are ISO 1/2" and NPT 1/2". A hand pressure device handle is provided with the MMP8 to push the probe in a pressurized environment.
Measure the residual allowance of water saturation:
MMP8 uses water activity (aw), relative saturation (%RS), and temperature (T) to measure moisture in oil. Water activity or relative saturation is a direct indicator of the risk of free water formation. This data is useful in lubricant applications where detection of water intrusion and prevention of free water formation are critical. This measurement is independent of oil type and degree of aging.
In addition to water activity, MMP8 can also output ppm, the average mass concentration of water in the oil. Vaisala has developed such a conversion formula for mineral transformer oil. For other oils, if the water solubility of the oil is known and the solubility of the oil remains constant, we can provide a conversion calculation coefficient for that particular oil. This enables continuous measurement of ppm moisture concentration in power transformer condition monitoring.
Use alone or with Indigo transmitters:
The smart probe's built-in RS-485 Modbus RTU communication protocol means the MMP8 can be used as a standalone device. It can also be easily integrated into other systems. The intelligent MMP8 is part of the Vaisala Indigo family, so it can also be used with the Vaisala Indigo200 transmitter. These transmitters also offer additional features such as a display that visually presents the data, easy access for probe configuration, and more options for connection, power voltage, and wiring.
When using the MMP8 independently or in conjunction with the Indigo transmitter, it can be connected to the Visala Insight software for easy field calibration, probe configuration and device analysis.
